Chihuly "Red Scorpions"

What Does Your Garden Grow?

Needing to learn more about my subject, I head to the Desert Botanical Garden in Phoenix. At 8.30am it is crowded with photographers as, ironically for someone from the Puget Sound, there's a Dale Chihuly installation. As if the cacti weren't surreal enough, now there are tall red glass "scorpions."

After I almost back into an ocotillo while sketching Chihuly's "Boat Float," the security guard stands up and gives me her chair. That really floats my boat!

Jo scored us tickets to one of the Noches de las Luminarias at the Garden. We are graced with a balmy evening to view the luminary-lit paths and Chihuly under the lights. There are musicians and we sit on a bench listening to a guitarist and looking out over the lights of Phoenix. It's an absolutely stunning evening.
