Monkey Business

on the train
Indian Railways is reported to have a 93% on time record. We ended up waiting a half hour for the train to Jhansi. There was a lot to took at, so that worked out. Didn't get a picture of the monkey scampering down the platform and on to a train. Wondering if he got in the correct class carriage. The windows on the local train (left) were kind of off-putting in that occupants seemed jailed behind the bars.

From Jhansi drove to Khajuraho, which was reputed to be an awful road. Luckily, we had been preceded three weeks earlier by a VIP economic conference, and the road had been repaved.

Khajuraho has the largest group of medieval Hindu and Jain temples, famous for their erotic sculpture. The Khajuraho group of monuments has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is considered to be one of the "seven wonders" of India. To my surprise, the temples are in a setting that is rather like an English public park, with grass, rose beds and ornamental trees.
